Brazilian singer-songwriter Tulipa Ruiz Chagas or professionally known as Tulipa Ruiz grew up with music at home. Her father was a member of Itamar Assumpção', a well-known Brazilian artist, and his band Isca de Policia. Later at the age of 22, she moved to Sao Paulo and worked at a record store. Her path to music was not a direct one she studied journalism at the University and while there started many music ensembles. She started her music career in 2009 and has been gaining a large following. She says her musical influences are Joni Mitchell, Meredith Monk, Gal Costa, and others. In 2010 she made her debut with her album, Efêmera, and won critical acclaim. One of the songs from the album Ephemeral was featured in the video game Fifa 11. The following year she released her second album, Tudo Tanto, and won the Multishow Brazilian Award. Tulipa is not only a singer-songwriter but also an illustrator who has done illustrations for album covers, concert posters, and magazines. You can find her artwork on her official Tumblr page. She released her third album in 2015 called Dancê and won a Latin Grammy for Best Pop Album of Contemporary Brazilian. Since then she released another album and in late September released her latest album Habilidades Extraordinárias.
