The smooth jazz grooves and vocals of this Scandinavian singer-songwriter will have you paying attention. Marie Dahlstrom from Roskilde, Denmark has been making music for the past 10 years but made her album debut in 2020. She has been labeled the Scandinavian NeoSoul singer to watch by many in the jazz world. Her music incorporates the genres of Soul, R&B, and Jazz that are soothing to your ears. When I first heard her song, Like Sand, and her debut album of the same name last year, I played it over and over again, I couldn't get enough.
Music has always been a part of her life since she was a little girl. She entered a song contest at age 11 and has a Ph.D. in Contemporary Music Sciences from the Danish Center For Music In The Brain. In 2011 she released her debut EP, Feelings to great success earning her 3 Scandinavian Soul Awards. She has been based in London where the jazz scene is on steroids. She says she listens to jazz and soul music all the time. She grew up listening to the music of Womack & Womack, Gloria Gaynor, and Edwyn Collins. She loves Erykah Badu, Jill Scott as well as Herbie Hancock and like them now produces her own music. Marie Dahlstrom loves the freedom of being independent and trusting your own gut and ears on your music. So far that gut feeling has been guiding her to the attention of those in the music industry and gaining her more followers around the world. Next year she will be touring and we hope she comes to the U.S. and plays some dates. Check out her album, Like Sand, and support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening
