Unknown Mortal Orchestra

What a great name for a band! Unknown Mortal Orchestra from Auckland, New Zealand had me intrigued and I had to check them out. The band plays the kind of psychedelic rock with a groove. Mixing rock with R&B and LoFi. The band consists of founder/singer-songwriter, Ruban Nielson, bassist Jake Portrait, drummer/singer, Kody Nielson along with members, Quincy McCrary and Chris Nielson on keyboards, synths and backing vocals.

The band is quickly gaining followers and that is making us happy. They made their self-titled album debut in 2011 and since then have released a total of five albums. On their 4th album, Sex & Food there was more of a funk groove to it, just listen to their song, Hunnybee with its classical intro that leads into its funky groove. The band loves to experiment with different music genres and they did so on their fifth album, IC-01 mixing jazz into their psychedelic rock music. They are now based in Portland, Oregon and have appeared on late-night shows, Conan, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Last Call with Carson Daly. They just released their latest single, That Life which is already gaining traction with fans. Check out this talented band and support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
