Leah Jenea

New Jersey native Leah Jenea walks the streets of her home turf noticing that she’s being noticed. After a stint on “The Four” (Fox), her voice and her face brought her into the spotlight in a way she wasn’t expecting. But she’s taking that all in stride and focused on her music, honing her craft and paying homage to one of her influences, Nina Simone. On her six-track EP, Leah Meets Nina, channels the iconic singer, songwriter, and activist with original songs which sample some of Simone’s hits.

Early lessons from her hip-hop artist/ father Larry “Kapital” Gaines, gave her confidence to write own material, which the young singer has used to more than her own advantage. Her song “Perfectly Imperfect” was penned to raise awareness about autism, and some of the proceeds of the song have positively impacted families of autistic children through the Nassan’s Place charity.

Gaining new fans from supporting Marsha Ambrosius on her Nyla Tour, Leah is just starting out on her career and has already learned some important lessons about giving back and staying true to oneself.
