French native Hervé “RV” Salters works under the name General Elektriks. And work he does, as a keyboardist, singer, composer, and producer, creating his own music and working with many others in the realm of funk, hip-hop, and pop.

Making San Francisco his home since 1999, he has worked with Blackalicious, Pigeon John, Femi Kuti and Mayer Hawthorne. He formed Honeycut in 2003 with singer Bart Davenport and drummer/programmer Tony Sevener, a trio with whom he has toured and recorded three albums. Their 2006 debut, The Day I Turned to Glass, earned 17th annual SF Weekly music award for Best Soul/Funk Band.

First using the name General Electriks in 2003, RV recorded Cliquety Kliqk. Five more albums have followed, including his latest, Carry No Ghosts, in 2018. “Crush” features samples from “Purple Rain,” with Pigeon John rapping over over familiar beats and new, original music. Other tracks range from electronica to funk. Chances are good that Salters will stay busy with remixes, collaborations and other surprises in the years to come.
