Empress Of

LA-based singer Lorely Rodriguez found her stage name during a tarot reading with a friend. When The Empress card was turned over, she immediately recognized herself, explaining, “the Empress card is connected to fertility and mothering and strength. It's kind of nice to have those feelings.” The dream pop artist imbues her music with elements of electronica and R&B.

After graduating from the Berklee College of Music, Empress of relocated to Brooklyn, NY, for a time enjoying a stint in Celestial Shore. Her first bit of limelight came in 2012 as a result of short YouTube videos, which she dubbed "Colorminutes," short songlets with its own, unique color. Her debut single, “Champagne”, soon followed. Staying true to her Latin roots, she released the bi-lingual EP Systems in 2013. Two years later she followed up with her first full-length album, Me, recorded in Mexico. Pitchfork proclaimed, “Now, she's stepping up as an avant-R&B auteur with pop star potential—like a Björk unleashing her inner Beyoncé.”

Between showcases at SXSW and Pitchfork’s Summer Music Festival, she’s been collaborating with producers DJDS, releasing more singles, and recording a new album. Us is scheduled for release this month, so be on the look-out for the latest from this rising talent.
