Cedric Burnside

Cedric Burnside isn’t merely a jazz drummer. He’s also a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who plays the blues. Grandson of the legendary RL Burnside and son of drummer Calvin Jackson, he was well-schooled in the blues tradition by his family. He’s recorded and performed with artists as diverse as the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Jimmy Buffett, Richard Johnson, and many more.

Born in Memphis and raised in Mississippi, his career started early. At age 13, he began to tour with his grandfather’s band, ultimately replacing his father on drums. He and his uncle Garry Burnside formed the Burnside Exploration, releasing The Record, in 2006. A few years later, the duo added Cedric’s younger brother Cody to the group, which became the Cedric Burnside Project.

He kept himself busy with other projects throughout the years, releasing several other recordings. The most recent, Benton County Relic, was nominated for a Best Blues Album Grammy. He is touring through the southern US in April before he heads off an international tour that will take him to Australia and Europe before returning to the States for more shows around the country.
