Blk Odyssy

It is very rare when I get the chills down my spine after listening to a song but this artist did just that. Meet Blk Odyssy aka, Sam Houston from Plainsfield, New Jersey but is currently based in Austin, Texas. His mix of funk and soul is well, mind-blowing but there is more to this amazing funkateer than meets the eye. You can say that soul and funk are in his blood because his father and uncle were part of the legendary band, Parliament-Funkadelic during the '70s. He grew up with music and musicians hanging out at this home. He made his debut last year with his socially conscious album, Blk Vintage which reflected the times we live in and his conflicting feelings about police brutality. This artist has changed his musical direction from blues and Americana to what

is naturally in his blood, funk, and soul. Glad he did because the music is not only soulful and has

an infectious groove but lyrically dives deep into his soul. Listen to his single, Big Bad Wolf/Sober and you will hear not only hip-hop flavored beats but his raps and singing are heart-felt. Since his debut many critics can't say enough about his album, NPR and others have had him perform on their shows. It may have taken him over two years to write and record the album but it was so worth it and his following continues to grow. Blk Odyssy will be on tour with rapper, Cordae whose tour begins on February 3. They will play Webster Hall here in NYC on February 20th, be sure to get your tickets you don't want to miss this show. Check out this super-talented singer-songwriter and support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
