Arlo Parks



Arlo Parks is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter and poet from South West London, United Kingdom. Her vocals are smooth as silk and her sound is both Indie Pop and Alternative. She grew up listening to several different types of music, from Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Chet Baker to Fela Kuti, and Otis Redding. The artist that influenced her songwriting the most when she was 13 is King Krule. She also listens to Kendrick Lamar and others. Arlo Parks says she was always a tomboy and struggled with her identity in her younger years. When she was 17 she shaved her head, figured out she is bisexual and both produced and wrote a whole album of material.


She is half Nigerian and part Chadian and part French. She grew up speaking French first before she knew English. She was very creative from an early age and would write short stories and makeup fantasy worlds. Some of the poets that she read were, Ginsberg and Jim Morrison as well as books like "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath and "Norwegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami. She has been voted as a 2020 breakthrough artist by the annual BBC poll of music critics. She has several singles out, her debut album will be announced shortly.
