New Music Monday: FKJ

FKJ was featured on the first Twofer Tuesday spotlight when playMYmusic.FM’s site launched. Four years have passed, and we decided it was time to revisit Vincent Fenton AKA French Kiwi Juice AKA FKJ. His new album, V I N C E N T, finds the multi-instrumentalist looking to the past, purportedly a journey of rediscovery of “the lost innocence in his life and music”.

Still creating music that melds electronic and traditional instruments, and blending soul, electronic, and jazz, on this outing he’s added more rock to the mix to create “a genre-fluid sound that forces a listener to both seep into the songs but also pay full attention to the complex technicalities that dance throughout each track” (Clash Magazine). To that end, he’s brought in some intriguing collaborators. Carlos Santana is instantly identifiable on “Greener,” a song that apparently “wrote itself in a night” according to Fenton. Other collaborators include Little Dragon and Toro Y Moi.

FJK is kicking off a tour in August, with extensive dates in Europe and North America.
