Massimiliano Milesi

Massimiliano Milesi is a composer and tenor saxophonist who hails from Bergamo, Italy. He keeps himself very busy as a member of the Wayne Horvitz European Orchestra, founder of the RES Collective and fronting his own quartet.

The latter is an “electroacoustic” outfit with Milesi on tenor, Emanuele Maniscalco on keyboards, bassist Giacomo Papetti, and drummer Filippo Sala. The quartet’s debut, Oofth, was released earlier this year. The title was inspired by a sci-fi novel of the same name.

Milesi initially studied philosophy in college but eventually embraced his calling and devoted himself to jazz at the Conservatorio di Milano. In addition to the aforementioned projects, he has collaborated with numerous musicians, including Dave Liebman, Steven Bernstein, Garrison Fewell, and partnered with Papetti on 2015’s Dimidiam.
