This Canadian group debuted in 2021 with the album Noteland and has been going strong ever since. They are an experimental jazz group whose music is built around the piano improvisations of Jon Neher. The group features not only Jon Neher on piano but also Travis Packer on bass, Dalton Lam, and Paul Gutheil on horns, and Michael Scott Dawson who is not only their producer but also contributes electronics, guitars, and sounds.

All members of the group contribute their music but also accept that things can change during recording sessions. Their music influences are legendary pianists Keith Jarrett and Mark Hollis. Hollis for those of you who know was part of the New Wave group, Talk Talk back in the 80s. The following year Peace Flag Ensemble released their sophomore album, This City Is A Queen with its title song of the same name. A beautiful song with a piano solo that has you feeling like you are floating on air. 

They just released their latest album, Astral Plains this past July and I can’t stop listening to it. The soundscape they created is otherworldly. Check out this super-talented jazz ensemble and support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
