I first heard about acid jazz in the 90s but its origins began in the 60s. The music blends jazz with funk, soul, hip-hop, and electronica. I admit I fell in love with the smooth grooves and I haven’t stopped checking out new acid jazz artists.
Nicola Conte has been making the kind of jazz music that makes you sway. He is not only a DJ but also a guitarist, composer, and bandleader. He introduced samba, bossa nova, and melodic themes that were influenced by Italian movies and incorporated them into his music. You will be hypnotized by his music and the grooves he creates are amazing. He made his debut in 2000 with the album Jet Sounds and has released several albums since then. He has also released several compilations and produced the debut album of a talented young jazz singer whom I met over a decade ago named Marvin Parks.
He just released his new album, Umoja which is acid jazz mixing with Latin music, soul, and afro-futurist sounds. Check out this talented composer, producer, and support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
