TWOFER TUESDAY

While working at EMI-Capitol Records I remember hearing this great music from the A&R department. It was a different sound of hip-hop and you couldn’t stop dancing to it. The band was the hip-hop group Arrested Development.

The band consisted of singer-songwriter Speech, Headliner the turntablist, Baba Oje, and singer Aerle Taree. The band had hits in the early 90s with “Tennesse” and “People Everyday” from their critically acclaimed album, 3 Years, 5 Months, and 2 Days In the Life…Their message was a positive Afrocentric vibe compared to the gangster rap of the time. Rolling Stone magazine named them Band of the Year in 1992. They broke up and have had some songs here and there in movies or TV. Speech and the band are back and independent with a new single, “Overachiever” that I can’t stop playing. They released their new album Bullets In The Chamber featuring many special guests and will be on tour this summer. Support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
