Singer-songwriter/guitarist Mackenzie Ruth Scott better known as TORRES caught my attention with her new song “Collect.” Born in Orlando, Florida, and raised in Macon, Georgia she started playing the flute at a young age. Raised in a conservative Christian home she was active in her church choir and later became interested in musical theater.
She made her debut in 2013 with her self-titled album TORRES which won critical acclaim. She hit the road and started playing eventually moving here to Brooklyn, NY. She has been compared to P.J. Harvey and she can rock out with the best of them. She mixes it up with elements of both folk music and electronica. She has recorded several albums with Thirstier released in 2021 as my favorite. Check out the songs “Don’t Go Putting Wishes In My Head” and Thirstier. Her vocals are both powerful and haunting at times with very impressive guitar playing.
.
She just released her latest single “Collect” and will be releasing her fourth album, What An Enormous Room on January 26th, 2024. She will be on tour starting in January with a date here in Brooklyn, NY at Club Elsewhere on the 26th. Support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
