TWOFER TUESDAY

August 27, 2024

South London artist Ruthven (born Sean Nelson) has been releasing singles since 2017. He’s gearing up for the release of his debut album, Rough & Ready, in October. The one-time firefighter has received praise for his soulful, minimalist style.

He was an early enrollee at the Paul Institute, a venture created by brother Jai and A.K Paul ( British singer/songwriters and producer) with Muz Azar. His mother was a music teacher, where he was first exposed to jazz and when he learned about the Institute, he was eager to join. After sending in some demos and hanging out with the team, he recorded his sessional, including his first single,”Evil.” Another early song, “Hypothalamus,” was praised by Pitchfork, noting, “Ruthven’s songs pack as much as punch as they do dulcet melody.”

He’s now signed to XL Recordings. His full-length debut is eagerly anticipated, especially after four preview releases, including the most recent, “I Can’t Go There.” Rough & Ready will be out on October 25, 2024.
