I came across this artist after a friend and colleague of mine who promotes Latin music posted about her. I listened to her music and loved it. Nothing like a great song with great lyrics to get you going on a Monday. Meet Roxiny from the Dominican Republic whose background has a somewhat dark history. This pop artist has some strong women in her family. Her grandmother was a revolutionary who fought in the resistance against the Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo.
Roxiny spent her early childhood in Andalusia, Spain, and traveled a lot due to her parent's wanderlust. She remembers singing a lot and can’t remember anything else. She has overcome some heavy stuff and survived an abusive relationship and wrote the song “9 months” to talk about her feelings. She is also very much involved in the project GEMS to help and empower women who have been abused or were involved in sex trafficking. Roxiny is fierce, strong, vulnerable, and tough. She is based here in NYC and made her debut in 2015 when she wrote a song for the Rubble Kings soundtrack called, “Phoenix.”She released her EP Rituals in 2018 with her single, “Golden Prophets.” The critics have compared Roxiny to alternative singer-songwriter Santigold. She released her next EP, QOYA which is a three-part concept album in 2020, and just released her latest single, “Ni Santas Ni Putas.” Roxiny is an artist to watch and one that empowers women all around the world. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
