Grunge-rock band HotWax is creating quite a stir on the indie music scene with their sound and style. The band from Hastings, U.K. combines their love of music from such influences as Amy Winehouse, The Beatles, country music, Destiny’s Child, and more.
The band consists of singer-guitarist Tallulah Sim-Savage, bassist Lola Sam, and drummer Alfie Sayers. The trio have said their interest in rock music came from listening to Blondie’s album, Parallel Lines which is one of my favorite albums. They decided to create their vision for the band by listening to bands Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Starcrawler and haven’t looked back since. In 2020 they started releasing singles through the internet and made their debut this past May with the EP, A Thousand Times. Critics have said their sound reminds them of The White Stripes and Hole.
These girls are visceral in their playing and the bass lines on their single, “Phone Machine” blew my mind. They are about to release their new album, Invite Me, Kindly on October 18th, and a tour to follow. We hope they come here to the States for some shows. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
