South African-born singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov plays the kind of folk music that is mesmerizing. His vocals and lyrics paint a picture in your mind that makes you smile with appreciation.
He was raised in Philadelphia and there he started his musical journey. At age 16 he was already playing with bands around town. Later when he got older he moved to Colorado and studied horticulture. In between playing gigs, he supported himself with gardening. He made his debut in 2003 with the album Rust Colored Stone and started taking his career a lot more seriously.
He has released several albums and started his own independent record label Suitcase Town Music. He has been influenced by such artists as Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, and Kelly Joe Phelps. In 2019 his album Evening Machines was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Folk Album. He just released the beautiful song, “Before The Sun” and his new album Appaloosa Bones will be released on August 18th. Check out this great singer-songwriter and support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
