A colleague of mine happened to mention new music from a Mexican singer and I had to investigate. Amalia Ramirez professionally known as Bruses is an artist to watch. She may be a Latin pop artist but upon further investigation, there is more to her music than just being labeled a pop star.
Born in Tijuana Bruses mixes pop with alternative sounds and has been collaborating with many Latin artists such as GALE who is up for a Latin Grammy next month. Check out their single, “Movie.” Music is in her blood since her dad is a musician and her grandfather would play guitar at the taco stands. Bruses writes about her experiences as a lesbian woman and is one of many Latin artists being open about their preferences. She is not afraid to try new things musically and she is not only a singer-songwriter but a producer. She just released her EP, Como Ella me Besó Probe a Dios last October and I love several tracks on the record. Check out “Crimen” and “Mas Que Amigas.” She will be performing at the Tecate Pa’l Norte Festival on March 30th in Mexico. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening! P.S. Thanks to Larry Flick for turning me on to her music.
