TWOFER TUESDAY

July 16, 2024

We first wrote about Big Joanie in 2019. The black, feminist punk band was formed in formed by Stephanie Phillips in 2013. Originally a trio, the group has seen some personnel changes over the year and is now a duo with Phillips (guitar and vocals) and Estella Adeyeri on bass and vocals. Since releasing their first EP, Sistahs, they’ve released a full-length album, Back Home, in 2022. The following year found them recording a song with Breeders/Pixies vocalist Kim Deal, “Today.” Just last week, they wrapped up a tour with the Breeders. Just a glance at their socials demonstrates their commitment to community and promoting fellow artists. Here’s hoping they get back into the studio soon. We need strong voices like theirs now more than ever.
