Upon hearing this band and its band members for a minute I thought the drummer, Jim Eno is related to the legendary Brian Eno but no relation. Nonetheless this band rocks and rocks hard. Spoon from Austin, Texas has seen several band members come and go but they have survived that revolving door and keep it moving musically. The band consists of Britt Daniels (vocals, guitar), Jim Eno ( drums) who are the founding members with Alex Fishel(keyboards, guitar), Gerardo Larios (keyboards, guitar), and Ben Trokan ( bass, keyboards). The band's music is rock with an edge, it can be pop, art rock, or post-punk. Their musical influences are Iggy Pop and The Stooges, David Bowie, The Kinks, Prince, The Beatles, The Pixies, and more. Their name pays homage to a German avant-garde band named Can. Spoon made their debut in 1996 with the album, Telephono and since then have released 9 albums. They made their major-label debut in 1998 and were signed to Elektra Records but since then they are independent and signed to Matador Records. They hit the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 in 2008 with their song, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Their pace has been slow and steady and the band has gained many followers and fans. They have influenced several bands with their music such as Vampire Weekend, Ted Leo, The French Kicks, and many more. Spoon has also been popular with political candidates such as Pete Buttigieg and they campaigned for Beto O'Rourke. Why are political candidates interested in this rock band from Austin, Texas? Well if you listen to some of their songs like The
Underdog, there is light political content that makes it attractive to them. Spoon may not be The Clash but they can rock and stir things up like them. They released their single, The Hardest Cut off their forthcoming album, Lucifer On The Sofa which will be released in February of 2022. Check out this awesome rock band and support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
