Phoebe Bridgers

California girl Phoebe Bridgers wrote her first song at age 15. Later, her mom used to drive her to the monthly open mic nights at Ben Harper's Folk Music Center. A singer/songwriter/guitarist who is already developing her own distinct voice, she looks forward to genre-jumping in the future, telling "CBS News This Morning" that she wants to be the kind of artist that could "release an electronic or country album next, and no one would be surprised."

2015 found her recording and releasing Killer on Ryan Adams' Pax Am label. Adams, who was also the producer, called her "a musical unicorn." Her first full-length album was released last year, is Stranger in the Alps. Earning praise from many quarters, the record graced many year-end "best" lists. "It's time you heard her," John Mayer tweeted. "Listen to this. This is the arrival of a giant." AV Club mused "Like the best sad-bastard music, Stranger In The Alps alchemizes sorrow into redemptive beauty. It’s never about wallowing, but about slowly moving through it. That difference, played out over some incredible, wise-beyond-her-years songwriting,"

Her songs are melancholy and intimate portraits of a young artist finding her way through love, life, and tragedy, with a mix of pop and folk with some hard edges that brings the listener right into her world. Maybe she's working on that electronic album next.
