New Music Monday - Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio

The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio (DLO3) has a sound that harkens back to the glory days of early 70s jazz-funk (think Jimmys Smith and McGriff with a dash of Ronnie Foster) and strong Meters overtones. The cover looks like classic Reid Miles Blue Note art too. From the moment I heard the first notes of “Get Da Steppin’” (our featured track), I was hooked. When sharing it with Rosie G., she exclaimed, “OMG, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.” This was an easy choice to feature this week.

The Seattle-based Lamarr is an exceptional musician who started out as a drummer and trumpet player. Luckily for us, he switched to a Hammond in his early 20s. Forming his trio in 2015, Lamarr and co. have released three studio albums and a live set from KEXP. Cold As Weiss is DLO3’s third studio album, released just last week. The whole album is smokin’.
