Ex-Marijuana Deathsquads member Jeremy Nutzman has released his second album under the moniker Velvet Negroni. Melding electronics and Caribbean influences to create a signature experimental, minimalistic R&B sound, Bulli is a testament to survival. In the intervening years between his 2019 debut, Neon Brown, Nutzman suffered a fire in his home and studio during the already difficult time of the pandemic. The Chicago Reader notes that, “‘Bulli’ is an emotionally tumultuous collection in which shards of hip-hop, R&B, pop and avant-garde are reconciled in an uneasy state.’” It’s certainly an unusual and compelling record.
