NEW MUSIC MONDAY

Monday, May 27, 2024

Right Place, Wrong Person is not the album I would expect from the leader of the South Korean boy band BTS. His second solo outing is far more experimental and devoid of the pop trappings of the group that made him famous. Heavy electronics sometimes veer into jazz territory. For the featured track, a long intro belies the funky and rhythmically satisfying hip-hop to come. He even tackles shoegaze on this record. The styles are all over the place, and the result of RM’s contemplation of self while being part of one of the most popular musical acts in the world. He invites the listener along for his journey of self-discovery, and it’s an intriguing ride.
