NEW MUSIC MONDAY

Critics are heaping praise upon Charlotte Day Wilson’s latest album, Cyan Blues. The Contemporary R&B singer hails from Canada, and she’s been receiving plaudits since her 2012 debut EP, Palimpsest. Self-taught using GarageBand when she was young, she studied music at a university in Nova Scotia before leaving to pursue her career (like so many music students before her). She released several singles and a second EP. It wasn’t until 2021 that she made a full-length record, collaborating with artists like BadBadNot Good, Mustafa, Daniel Caesar, and others. With Cyan Blues, she’s created “a twilight dreamscape where rich, soulful melodies illuminate under a cyan moon.” (Northern Transmissions) Stereogum notes certain tracks are “immersive works of atmospheric R&B.” Hers is a bold, compelling voice in a sea of conformity.
