NEW MUSIC MONDAY

Drummer Moses Boyd and tenor saxophonist Binker Golding have teamed up again. The duo’s new record, Feeding the Machine, was released last week on Gearbox. Known for mixing other genres with jazz, the music is anything but traditional. For this outing, they have teamed up with Max Luthert who brings tape loops and electronics to add texture and atmosphere. Reminded of Miles Davis’ On The Corner, Nick Roseblade of Clash Magazine muses, “the electronic motifs add punctuation to the dense phrases that Binker and Moses have created. It gives the duo a firm, if not glitchy, foundation while they lay down some free jazz phrases.”
Binker & Moses are all over the London jazz scene, playing together and apart in a myriad of combos. Their first release in 2015, Dem Ones, was widely praised by critics, and they earned a MOBO award for “Best Jazz Act” for 2017. With three studio albums and two live sets to their credit, they continue to keep it interesting.
playMYmusic.FM first featured Binker & Moses in 2018, and we’re always excited to see what these two will do next.
