Listening to this talented jazz pianist/composer’s music had me tapping my feet along to the sounds. Meet Zoe Rahman from Chichester in the U.K. and like many musicians started playing the piano at a young age. Her playing has a soulful groove that I love.
She’s a contemporary pianist gaining an audience with her playing and compositions. Critics can’t stop talking about her; if one listens, you will realize why. Her music is a mix of not only jazz but there are classical undertones and a blend of her Bengali and British heritage. She made her debut in 2001 with the album Cynic and has released several albums since then. She also released an album with her brother, jazz saxophonist Idris Rahman which mixed jazz with Bengali music sounds and stylings. Check out the song, “Anondo Dhara” which is just beautiful. Zoe Rahman has also performed with Courtney Pine, Yoko Ono, Martha Wainwright, and many others. She just released her new album, Colour of Sound, and it's refreshing to listen to an album from start to finish. A rarity these days. Support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
