Throughout the years jazz music has morphed into many different genres. I admit I was a bit skeptical about jazz being mixed with drum and bass music but this singer-songwriter makes it work. Meet Tess Hirst from London, U.K. who has people asking who is this artist. She studied performance, composition, and lyricism at Leeds College of Music and later studied Cuban and Atlantic African music.
In 2015 she released her debut EP, Love’s Sunday with hip-hop influences. She later got together with her collaborator Daniel Casimir and the duo has been putting out music since 2019. They are signed to this great pioneering record label called Jazz re: Freshed. This singer-songwriter is one to watch. She is about to release her album, Herstory on January 26th. Check out the tracks, “I’ll Keep” and “It Doesn’t Matter.” Her voice with its jazz groove mixed with drum and bass needs to be checked out. I hope she comes to the States for some live performances. In the meantime support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
