Oreglo is one of those exciting new bands from London that refuses to be tied to one genre. Described as “jazz adjacent” by Rolling Stone, the members of the group met through musical youth groups that have become an important breeding ground for the next generation of players.
Keyboardist c-sé, tubist Teigan Hastings, guitarist Linus Barry, and drummer Nicco Rocco met in secondary school and again in Tomorrow’s Warriors. All credit their time in that youth group as well as Kinetica Bloco and Julian Joseph Jazz Academy in learning how to work with ensembles and learn discipline to hone their craft. Their influences range from Warriors alumni like Nubya Garcia, Femi Koleoso, and Moses Boyd to reggae, rock, electronica, funk, and rap. You can hear these influences on their impressive debut EP, Not Real People.
These young players will be ones to watch, and knowing the ways of the London scene, will be popping in projects by other artists in due course.
