THE JAZZ CAFE

There is nothing that catches my attention more than a great groove. When I first heard Indie saxophonist James Casey's new song I kept playing it repeatedly and added it to my playlist. The Washington D.C native who was raised in Phoenix, Arizona has been wowing audiences with his sax grooves.

Born into a musical family where he grew up playing in his family’s church choir and started on drums at age 3. Any wonder he is a musician, it’s in the blood. He started playing the saxophone at age 9 and hasn’t stopped since. He later attended Berklee College of Music to pursue a music business degree. He moved to New York to continue pursuing his passion.

If he seems familiar to you then you know that James Casey has been part of the jazz-funk bands,  Lettuce and Soulive. He is a very much-in-demand saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Some of the people he has played with or produced are The Roots, John Legend, Lettuce, Chaka Khan, and the late jazz trumpeter, Roy Hargrove. He has produced many artists like J Cole and others. During the recording for his debut full-length album, he received some disturbing news. He was diagnosed with colorectal cancer but he didn't let that news defeat him instead, he marched on and recorded this amazing album with great grooves and soaring sax sounds that just take you away. The album called The Kaua’I Project will be released sometime next month and the single, “New Bloom” was just released three weeks ago. The musicians who have played in the video are all persevering through their own cancer journey. Check out this amazing musician and support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
