THE JAZZ CAFE

In listening to jazz artist DJ Harrison he reminds me at times of Stevie Wonder on the sound of the organ. Devonne Andre Harris professionally known as DJ Harrison grew up with music at home. His father was a radio DJ and he absorbed all the sounds coming from his family home.

Since he was young he would listen to his parent's large record collection. He was always trying to figure out how vinyl records were made This jazz artist uses a scientific approach to songwriting and producing. He is methodical and does a lot of research and experimentation when building his songs. He released his debut album Monotones in 2013 and has released several albums since. He is also part of the jazz quintet Butcher Brown from Virginia. He just released his new album, Shades of Yesterday which pays homage to his musical heroes such as Eddie Henderson, Stevie Wonder, and many more. Check out his remake of Stevie Wonder’s “Contusions.” I can’t wait for him to come to NYC and play a few dates. Support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
