This jazz vocalist floored me with her pitch, cadence, and tone. Meet Carmen Lundy from Miami, Florida a jazz singer-songwriter with one of the best voices I have heard in a long time. I don’t say that lightly. At age 6 she started playing piano and music just courses through her veins, inherited. Her mother was a gospel singer and Carmen herself joined the junior choir. At the age of 12 decided she wanted to be a singer. She studied opera at the University of Miami and later switched to jazz music.
If you listen to her singing you can hear some Aretha Franklin, Sarah Vaughn, and others when it comes to her phrasing and how she sings. Carmen Lundy says her first musical influences were Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, and Stevie Wonder. She has performed with such jazz luminaries as Don Pullen, Terri Lynn Carrington, Courtney Pine, and others. She made her debut in 1985 with the album Good Morning Kiss and has recorded over 14 albums since then. She started her own record label, Afrasia Productions, and has released her last few albums through the label. She just released her latest, Fade to Black. Check out this super-talented jazz vocalist and support Independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
