I don’t know about you but the sound of the double bass is quite extraordinary for me. Indie jazz bassist, Brian Bromberg who plays both the double bass and electric bass first started out as a drummer. Both his dad and brother are drummers and it was a natural progression for Brian Bromberg to follow.
He started playing professionally at a young age and fate played a major part in his music career. His orchestra teacher introduced him to the double bass while in high school. Years later his big break came when legendary jazz pianist, Bill Evan’s bassist Marc Johnson referred him to the legendary Stan Getz and the rest is history. He has played with the best in jazz, rock, and R&B such as Dave Grusin, Elvis Costello, Herbie Hancock, Tina Marie, and Chante Moore, the list is endless. He made his debut in 1986 with his album, A New Day, and has released several albums since then. Most notably, Basses Loaded, Jaco, and Bromberg Plays Hendrix for those of you who are bass heads like me.
He has experimented with many music genres but jazz is his favorite. He just released his new album The Magic of Moonlight with the title track as his new single. Expect a tour to follow and be sure to check him out live. Support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
