Ana Carla Maza

THE JAZZ CAFE

November 5, 2023

I’m always excited when I come across a great song by a new artist. Meet Ana Carla Maza from Havana, Cuba who started her musical journey at a young age. She was introduced to the piano by Latin jazz pianist, Chucho Valdés’s sister Miriam Valdés, and by 8 years old she started playing the cello. The latter was the instrument that she felt the most connected to. At age 10 she made her debut on stage in her native country.

There was always music playing in her home since both her parents were musicians. She is a well-rounded musician having studied classical, jazz, and world music. She doesn’t limit herself to just jazz and mixes pop, classical techniques, and Latin rhythms from her roots. She made her debut in 2016 with an Acoustic Solo Concert and in 2020 she released her sophomore album La Flor. Listen to the song “Desamor” and her great cello playing. Her album in 2022 titled Bahia featured more classically structured songs.

She just released her latest album Caribe and I can’t stop playing it. It definitely put a smile on my face with great songs and a return to her Latin roots. She is now on tour be sure to check out this super-talented singer-songwriter/cellist. Support indie music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
