Tiny Ruins

February 28, 2023

New Zealand rock band Tiny Ruins which is based in Auckland was first the concept of singer-songwriter, Hollie Fullbrook. The band consists of not only Fullbrook on vocals and guitar but also Cass Basil on bass, Tom Healy on guitar, and Alexander Freer on drums. Hollie Fullbrook recorded an EP in 2009 under the name Tiny Ruins. She first started out going on tour throughout Europe with singer-songwriter Lieven Sheerlink and Ana Franco. She later added the current line-up and they recorded their first album together in 2014 titled Brightly Painted One. That album later won Best Alternative Album at the New Zealand Music Awards.

Listening to several of their songs such as “Old As The Hills” from the album, Some Were Meant for Sea you can hear the haunting vocals of Hollie Fullbrook that stir your imagination and picture what she is singing about. In 2019 they released the album, Olympic Girls, and my favorite song there is “Holograms” but you have to listen to the entire album to truly appreciate the genius songwriting of Hollie Fullbrook and her accompanying band. The band just released their latest single, “Dorothy Bay,” and will release their new album Ceremony on April 28th. We hope they come to the States for a tour, it would be great to see them live. Check out this talented Indie folk band and support independent music and musicians worldwide. Happy listening!
