This artist is flying under the radar but is catching the attention of many. Charleston-based singer-songwriter, Grace Joyner has the voice of an angel. She reminds me at times of a Joni Mitchell or even singer-songwriter, Lorde. She has been a harmonizing singer with such bands as Brave Baby and Elim Bolt. She decided to go solo and it's paid off in a big way. She had one of her songs played on the tv show, Riverdale and has gained a following. She says at the time she didn't have representation and the producers of the show reached out to her. Now that she has a company representing her, she hopes to have her music on tv and in film. She released her first EP, Young Fools in 2014 and I love the single Young Thing. She followed it up in 2016 with the EP, Maybe Sometimes - In C. Her single off that album Knee with its dreamy sound and her vocals telling the story of a sneaky friend. Many of her songs are autobiographical and she writes of her experiences and mixes it all in with some synth-pop and dream pop. At the beginning of the pandemic, she had already recorded her album, Settle In which coincidentally happened that everyone had to settle in for a long haul. On that album, she even had her mother duet with her on the song, Million Dollar Wound. Both of them sang softly about her grandfather's time in the war. Beautiful song and you must check it out. Gracy Joyner just released her latest single, Lioness about a failed relationship. The orchestration on the song brings me back to songs of the 60s that featured great orchestrations and that wall of sound. Looking forward to a new album and she is on tour. Check out this super-talented heavenly voiced singer-songwriter and support independent music and musicians. Happy listening!
